AV8 Flight had the honor of participating in the 6th Annual Mark Pavelich Charity Golf Event sponsored by The Ranch on Monday with a helicopter ball drop.

A helicopter ball drop is a fantastic and exciting way to raise funds and visibility for a cause, and typically the ball that lands in or closest to the marked target wins the prize. In this event, number 148 won with close proximity, and the prize was considerable, including Stanley Cup tickets and approximately $3,000 value in additional prizes such as gift cards for hotel and transportation.

The 6th Annual Mark Pavelich Charity Golf Event

For the golf event on Monday, 950 numbered golf balls were packaged in a large transport bag and then dropped from one of AV8’s helicopters. Fun fact: 950 golf balls weigh 96 lbs! That’s 950 golf balls at 1.6 oz each. Weight and balance are critical considerations pre-flight, so making this calculation is not just for curiosity, but is flight-critical. The cargo was managed in-flight by Alec, a member of the event team, and the aircraft piloted by George Lichty, our own General Manager and Primary Helicopter Instructor. Thanks to Robinson Helicopter who donated the cost of fuel for the event.
