FAA Gold Seal Flight Instructors
FAA Gold Seal Flight Instructors

The FAA awards a special designation to CFIs that maintain a high level of flight training activity and meet special criteria.

The FAA Gold Seal Instructor designation is awarded to CFIs that go above and beyond the normal requirements for being a flight instructor. With over 80,000 CFIs in the United States, just a small percentage hold this prestigious designation. This accolade has several requirements which include signing off at least ten students within a two-year period. Of those ten students, eight must pass their check ride on the first attempt.

Maintaining an 80% pass rate can be quite difficult when an instructor is teaching multiple disciplines of flight including private, commercial, or if equipped with a CFII rating, instrument training. The CFI also must hold either an Advanced Ground Instructor or Instrument Ground Instructor certificate.

Currently AV8 Flight School has three Gold Seal Instructors on staff, and additional team members are working toward achieving this significant accreditation.
