Clear Cut Woodworking creates AV8 Flight School METAR Board

Clear Cut Woodworking, commissioned to create this incredible one-of-a-kind METAR board for AV8 Flight School, shares the project process and completed work.

METAR, a weather reporting format, is used by aircraft pilots. Detailed information provided can typically include temperature, dew point, wind direction and speed, precipitation, cloud cover and more. In this METAR board, five general weather conditions are indicated by a colored light, and information is refreshed every 10 minutes by connection to aviationweather.gov. A kit from diymetar.com was used in the creation of this board.

The color of each light indicates the current conditions at that airport:

• VFR: Visual Flight Rules (green)
• MVFR: Marginal Visual Flight rules (blue)
• IFR: Instrument Flight Rules (red)
• LIFR: Low Instrument Flight Rules (purple)
• Windy: (gold)
